Maltese-flagged ship leaking oil after grounding off Stockholm

  A small Maltese-registered container ship is in danger of sinking after running aground off Stockholm.  The Finnish press is reporting that the 90-metre Kertu ran aground in a storm early this morning and has since been leaking oil, raising fears of environmental damage in the Stockholm archipelago.  The ship reportedly had some 50 tonnes of oil on board. Attempts are being made to transfer the oil to another vessel but the operation is being hampered by rough seas.

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has published new guidance for shipowners on how shipping companies and crews can implement an effective ‘safety culture’.
The new ICS Guidelines, being distributed free of charge throughout the industry, were launched at a reception today, sponsored by ICS, for Governments attending the IMO Symposium on the Future of Ship Safety in London.
